The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 195 (Christine)
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show, Carpentober revs up as we talk about John Carpenter's 1983 adaptation of the Stephen King novel Christine. Joined by the phenomenal dynamic duo of Kevin and Erin of The Podcast That Wouldn't Die we talk about the many changes the movie made to the original novel, John Carpenter's nostalgia for the 50s fitting the thematic sphere and his continuing effort to make exploitation movies that look A-grade as well. We also talk about hiring thirty-somethings to play teenagers, Arnie Cunningham as an obnoxious nerd who can't take out the trash correctly and how a lot of the movie takes place off camera and how it may be not OK for some of us while being an invitation to read between the lines for others.
