Death by Adaptation Podcast - Episode 05: Great Expectations & Red Dragon
Death By Adaptation is Clapper’s monthly book club, where a group of cinephiles and bibliophiles meets up to discuss new and classic books and their cinematic adaptations, focusing on historical relevance, fun pieces of trivia, and how distinctly different the written and visual art forms are.
In this episode, we discuss the classic Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations, focusing on the faithful 1946 retelling by David Lean, and the very questionable modern-day reimagining by Alfonso Cuarón. Then, we talked about the Michael Mann and Brett Ratner adaptations of Thomas Harris' highly influential crime thriller Red Dragon, and whether being faithful to the source really is the most effective way in transposing a story to the silver screen.
