Blood On Her Name
Blood on Her Name, directed by Matthew Pope, is an intense and intimate small-town crime thriller that erupts into a more extensive and horrifying family chaos. It is a terrifically morbid and atmospheric thriller, intimately produced for a twisted tale of murder.
A brooding morality tale that blooms into an engaging crime thriller, Blood on Her Name is led by a terrific turn from lead actress, Bethany Anne Lind as Leigh Tiller. Lind provides a performance that begins in the midst of unknown chaos; it gathers significant weight and layers as the story develops. The range shown by Lind is impressive. I What stands out from the crowd is the way in which Lind balances the emotional torment that the character is engulfed in.
It is a performance that is helped and elevated by an almost starved and mysterious narrative courtesy of writer/director, Matthew Pope and co-writer, Don M. Thompson's screenplay. Beginning amid utter chaos only reinforces the viciousness and tone of the film – something it plays around with and showcases.
It is a perfect way to engage with the audience, authentically as well as organically, to reveal detail in no heavy-handed expositional screenplay but, instead, by the strict actions that take place before the viewer’s eyes. These actions are prominent in subtle cues delivered through flashbacks and atmospheric mood, regarding characters played by Will Patton and Elizabeth Röhn.
The feature is both well-shot and edited by Matthew Rodgers and M.R. Boxley as the cinematographer and editor, respectively. The latter, in particular, is straightforward and paced terrifically. The hard-hitting terrors are shown in takes that allow said terror to have an impact while also leaving room to breathe, Moments of character are also created in the midst of a raging thematic fire burning away.
BLOOD ON HER NAME will open in select US theaters and on VOD in the US, Canada, UK, and AUS & NZ from Vertical Entertainment on February 28th.
