The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 95 (Man of Tai Chi)
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show we are continuing our double bill of actors-turned-directors doing a martial arts film with Keanu Reeves' Man of Tai Chi. Joined by our good buddy Jak we wonder what pushed Keanu Reeves to step behind the camera and why he never returned to do another movie. You will also hear us talk about the influences behind the movie, the Wachowski factor, whether the movie is too complex for its own good or if it is perfect the way it is, if it functions as a martial arts Truman Show, and most importantly we ask if Keanu Reeves' direction makes martial artists look cool.
