The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 54 (Con Air)
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show, joined by the crew of The Podcast that Wouldn’t Die we are taking a convict-filled plane to the 90s to talk about Con Air. Over the course of our discussion you will hear us wonder how this movie functions as a distillation of the 90s tropes, how it is a quintessential Jerry Bruckheimer production and how it attempts to capitalize on the success of the early Michael Bay movies. We also share quite a few laughs at the expense of the film's writing choices, characterizations and some elements of its aesthetic that perhaps didn't age very well over time.
