The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 45: Equilibrium

The Uncut Gems Podcast

The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.

In this episode of the show, we are circling The Matrix and so we discuss Equilibrium, a movie that definitely happened thanks to the overwhelming success of The Matrix and maybe borrowed a thing or two (or twenty) from it as well. Over the course of our conversation we dig into the stew of literary inspirations lifted and repackaged to form the narrative of this film, talk about the lasting influence of The Matrix on the way fight choreography is executed in Hollywood movies, find connections to other movies hidden within the movie and pore over the possibility that Equilibrium may be smarter than it is usually given credit for.
