The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 42: Jupiter Ascending

The Uncut Gems Podcast

The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.

In this episode of the show, we are diving deep into our new "Circling The Matrix" series by discussing one of the more recent outings directed by the Wachowskis, namely Jupiter Ascending. Over the course of our conversation, we attempt to figure out why this movie was received negatively upon its initial release, argue over whether its world-building and exposition-heavy writing is an acquired taste or if it is a fundamental detriment to the enjoyment of the movie, comment upon the film's attempt to mesh classical fairy tales with the language of space opera and - among many other things - we spare no expense critiquing Eddie Redmayne's god-awful performance as the story's foremost villain with a hoarse throat.
