The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 39: Prince of Darkness
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show we are revisiting one of the most overlooked movies written and directed by John Carpenter, namely Prince of Darkness. Over the course of our discussion we gush over the craftsmanship of the film, its inventiveness, the overall mood and tone that sets it apart from not only movies of its time but even cinema as a whole and - naturally - delve deep into the thematics underpinning the movie, which is the grinding interface between science and religion. We might also, with our tongues pressed into our cheeks, postulate that Prince of Darkness and Christopher Nolan's Tenet might have more in common than meets the eye.
