The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 208 (Patriots Day)

The Uncut Gems Podcast

The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.

In this episode of the show we are talking about the third collaboration between Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg, which is Patriots Day. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk at length about the power of Berg's Mann-esque realism and how it is additionally bolstered by the emotional honesty smuggled by the characters, whether Wahlberg's composite character is a detractor or not, and how occasionally Hollywood may creep into the movie after all. We also talk about the difficult balancing act of depicting a real terrorist attack in a tactful way, how the movie blends in real footage with its fictionalized narrative for added immersion and much more!
