The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 183 (Bad Lieutenant)
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show we are concluding our month-long male therapy session as we talk about Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about Ferrara's stylistic and thematic relationship with Martin Scorsese, the movie being a journey towards spiritual catharsis, and rogue filmmaking. We also talk about Harvey Keitel's audacious role choices, his many infamous scenes and that for some reason this movie is a formative experience for Jakub who has watched it more often than it is perhaps healthy for the human brain.
