The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 18: mother!

The Uncut Gems Podcast
The Uncut Gems Podcast

The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.

In this episode of the show we continue revisiting Darren Aronofsky's cinema as we dig into his latest opus mother! Supremely controversial upon its release and eventually tragically unsuccessful, this film was powerful enough a catalyst for the gang to argue over its merits for nearly five hours! Over the course of this gargantuan discussion we left no stone unturned as we examined the film's intended meaning, a multitude of readings Aronofsky did not knew were there in the first place, the film's troubled life span, its controversial imagery, whether it would have fared better if it was released today and much, much more! So, set aside a bit more time this week and join our odyssey of biblical allegories, unsettling symbols and chaotic nightmares!
