The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 14: Krull
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show we embark on an epic adventure leading us all the way back to the 1980s when the genre of fantasy was making a rapid resurgence and discuss Krull. We talk about how this film came to be, what possibly inspired it and - most importantly - try to understand why it became a spectacular box office bomb. We obsess over its lush production design, ridicule its ludicrous plotting and messy storytelling, and sing praises for James Horner's epic score adorning the film. And you may also find out what other films this score is secretly tethering Krull to. The answer may surprise you!!!
