The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 13: Alien 3 and Pitch Black
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show we are (prematurely) celebrating Alien Day by talking about David Fincher’s directorial debut, Alien 3. We leave no stone unturned as we delve into the intricacies of the film’s troubled production, controversies surrounding the evolution of Ellen Ripley’s character, as well as the way the 2003 Assembly Cut attempted to rectify some of its flaws. As an added bonus, we also talk about David Twohy’s Pitch Black, a low budget science-fiction movie that perhaps owes more to the Alien series than one could care to admit; however, some of us may see this claim as slightly provocative!
Tune in, follow, like and subscribe at your podcatcher of choice and be sure to follow the show on Twitter and Instagram as well! You can also support the show on Ko-fi!
