The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 12: The Mummy and The Mummy Returns

The Uncut Gems Podcast
The Uncut Gems Podcast

The Uncut Gems Podcast is a show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.

In this episode of the show we are taking a deep dive into the world of swashbuckling adventure, corny romance, ancient curses, revived corpses and sand (lots of sand) as we are discussing The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, with a side order of adding our few cents about The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and even a few words on The Scorpion King. We marvel over the chemistry Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz shared on the screen, identify the multitude of Spielbergian references peppered throughout the series, take a few swipes at the way the franchise developed and maybe offer a handful of comments about the way these films aged over time, while stating firmly that at least some of us are capable of seeing through any and all of their flaws thanks to the wonders of childhood nostalgia.

Tune in, follow, like and subscribe at your podcatcher of choice and be sure to follow the show on Twitter and Instagram as well! You can also support the show on Ko-fi!
