The Uncut Gems Podcast - Episode 06: Glass
The Uncut Gems Podcast is a brand new show where a bunch of like-minded individuals gather around a virtual table to discuss films that for one reason or another have become forgotten. Tongues pressed firmly in cheek, the team don their film historian top hats and rant from sedentary positions to hopefully conclude whether the film in question deserves to be covered by sands of time or if it is a classic in dire need of attention.
In this episode of the show we are setting our sights on M. Night Shyamalan's conclusion to 'The Eastrail 177 Trilogy' (aka 'The Unbreakable Trilogy'), Glass. We leave no stones unturned as we grapple with the film's status as a potentially misunderstood masterpiece, get to the nitty-gritty of Shyamalan's filmmaking style, his Hitchcockian roots, screenwriting quirks, indulgences and inspirations, and try to figure out whether the film truly deserves to be remembered as an epic conclusion to a long-gestating passion project, or whether it is an example of style-over-substance filmmaking. Come for the film talk, stay for the fisticuffs (because this particular discussion got heated very quickly)!
