FANTASIA 2020: Night Shifts
Premiering as the opener to Cody Callahan’s feature length film The Oak Room, Finn Wolfhard’s four minute short, Night Shifts, is a remarkable — albeit brief — directorial debut from a young voice in the industry about an unlikely encounter at a gas station that takes a comedic turn.
Best known for his appearances in Stranger Things, the It franchise and The Goldfinch, in Night Shifts, seventeen year old Finn Wolfhard transitions to a role behind the camera and exudes confidence. With a talented crew in tow, he is able to head the creation of a palpable world inhibited by multifaceted characters, brilliantly portrayed by Billy Burk, Artoun Nazareth and Malcom Sparrow-Crawford, whose chemistry enables Wolfhard’s own witty screenplay to truly come to life.
Overall, Night Shifts is an enjoyable little burst of clever comedy that is sure to brighten everyone's day and make them recall relationships of the past. While Finn Wolfhard may already be an established acting talent, Night Shifts proves that he may have quite a future behind the camera as well.
